New on Netflix: two Oscar-nominated film highlights with star cast

2 min read

The Oscar for Best Film won the drama ” Moonlight ” in 2017 – this should have been remembered by film fans, above all because of the mistake that was made during the award ceremony. Because the presenters first announced the musical ” La La Land ” as the winner and its producers even gave their acceptance speech, but then the error was corrected and suddenly “Moonlight” was the big winner of the evening – and remained so.

But “La La Land” was not the only great film that “Moonlight” hit in the Best Film category: ” Fences ” and ” Hell Or High Water ” were among the Oscar competitors – watch online.

4 OSCAR NOMINATIONS AND 4.5 STARS FOR “HELL OR HIGH WATER”

In “Hell Or High Water” the brothers Toby ( Chris Pine ) and Tanner ( Ben Foster ) want to save their late mother’s farm from ruin. But they don’t have any money, so they quickly resort to bank robbery. Texas ranger Marcus Hamilton ( Jeff Bridges ) sneaks up on the duo and clings to his heels …

David Mackenzie’s modern western was nominated for an Oscar in 2017 in the categories Best Film, Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (Jeff Bridges) and Best Editor, but ended up being empty-handed. The “profound and at the same time hellishly entertaining” picture of the rural American middle class is absolutely worth seeing!

4 OSCAR NOMINATIONS AND 4 STARS FOR “FENCES”

In “Fences” the ex-American baseball player Troy Maxson ( Denzel Washington ) worked as a garbage man in Pittsburgh in the 1950s. He struggles with the fact that he never made it into sports and blames racism for it. When his son Cory ( Jovan Adepo ) is offered to play college football, Troy makes a questionable decision …

There were also four Oscar nominations for “Fences” by Denzel Washington in 2017, Viola Davis , who plays Troy’s wife, was then able to take the gold boy home in the Best Supporting Actress category. There were other nominations in the categories Best Film, Best Actor (Washington) and Best Adapted Screenplay.
