The return of F5 category tornadoes! Variety announces that Universal will revive one of the studio classics, which was a huge success at the time:. Director Joseph Kosinski (Tron 2, Top Gun 2) is responsible for directing this new version of the disaster film. This new Twister will be produced by Frank Marshall , the regular collaborator of Steven Spielberg.

It was in 1996 that the original Twister was released, disaster film with 494 million dollars in the world. It was the second biggest success of the year ahead of Mission: Impossible and far behind Independance Day (817 million). For comparison, he reports much more than the biggest success of 1995 that was A day in hell and its 366 million. Suffice to say that at the time, tornadoes have the wind in their sails.

On a script co-signed by Michael Crichton and Anne-Marie Martin (touched up during production by Joss Whedon and Steven Zaillian ), Twister tells the story of a meteorologist ( Helen Hunt ) who lost his father in a tornado. When a huge tornado threatens, the most violent that Oklahoma State has suffered, she and her team are at the forefront… We also find Bill Paxton, Cary Elwes and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

The film was directed by Jan de Bont (Speed, Tomb Raider 2) and was entitled to two films riding on his success: the TV movie Storm Chasers: Revenge of the Twister (1998) and Twister 2: The Terror Continues (1996), documentary which is only a succession of very real found footage of people who filmed tornadoes. Conversely, a film with Luke Perry simply titled Storm became in France Twister II: Extrême tornado (1999). Will the return of the blockbuster in 2022 or 2023 have the same number of sequels as its glorious predecessors? To your predictions!
